What a check costs.

The price depends on the kind of post and, for video, its length. It does not depend on how many claims the post makes. 100 credits is $1.

Questions.

What is a credit?

A credit is the unit Polygraph charges in. One credit is 1¢, so $1 buys 100 credits. Checking a text or image post costs 25 credits today.

How do I know what a check will cost?

You see the price in credits before the check runs. It depends on the kind of post and, for video, its length: 25 credits for a text or image post, 5 credits per started minute of video, with a minimum of 25 credits. The number of claims in the post does not change the price.

Is anything free?

Every account gets 100 credits a month. They are spent before credits you buy, renew on the first of each month and do not carry over. Opening a post that has already been checked is also free.

Why are prices going up on January 1?

Today’s prices are introductory. From January 1, 2027, a text or image post costs 35 credits instead of 25 credits, and video costs 7 credits a minute instead of 5 credits, with a minimum of 35 credits.

How do I keep today’s prices?

Subscribe before January 1, at any amount from $5 a month. For as long as you stay subscribed, every check costs today’s price. Pay as you go accounts pay the new prices from January 1.

What happens if I cancel my subscription?

The credits already in your account stay there and never expire. You stop getting monthly credits, and you lose today’s prices: from January 1, or from the day you cancel if that is later, checks cost the new prices.

Do credits expire?

Credits you buy never expire, and neither do credits from a subscription, bonus included. Bonus credits that come with a one-time purchase expire after 12 months. Free monthly credits do not carry over.

Do I pay for a check that finds nothing, or fails?

No. If a post has no factual claims to check, or the check cannot be completed, the credits are returned. A post someone has already checked is free to open.

What does a subscription pay for?

The checks themselves. Your monthly amount arrives as credits with 15% more added, and every check you run is free for the next person who opens that post. It is a steady way to support fact-checking beyond your own reading.
